A little preparation can make traveling with colored contacts much easier.
1. Pack Backup Lenses
Always bring spare lenses when traveling. If a lens becomes contaminated, damaged or uncomfortable, you don't want to feel pressured to continue wearing it simply because it's your only pair.
2. Bring Your Glasses
Your glasses are an essential backup. They're particularly useful on long flights, around swimming pools and when your eyes simply need a break.
3. Carry Travel-Size Contact Lens Solution
If you wear reusable lenses, bring suitable contact lens solution in a travel-friendly size. Never substitute water for contact lens solution.
4. Keep Your Lens Case Clean
A dirty lens case can undermine otherwise good lens hygiene. Follow the manufacturer's or your eye care professional's instructions for cleaning and replacing your case.
5. Watch Out for Sand
Wash and completely dry your hands before handling contacts at the beach. Sand on your fingers can make lens handling extremely uncomfortable and may potentially scratch the surface of your eye.
6. Don't Forget Sunglasses
Contact lenses don't replace sunglasses. Wear quality sunglasses with appropriate UV protection when you're outdoors. Besides protecting your eyes from sunlight, sunglasses can also help shield your eyes from wind and blowing sand.
